Ed and Kristy Janos - Cook's Fresh Market
Both graduates of the Culinary Institute of America, this chef team uses all unique original recipes making everything from scratch with the best sourced ingredients, local when possible. The foundation of flavors comes from their commitment to the best ingredients and commitment to proper classic cooking techniques.
Between the two of them, the Janos team possess over 50 years of professional cooking experience. In addition to previously owning two restaurants, the chefs have held three Corporate Executive Chef positions, a Corporate Executive Banquet Chef position and a position as Vice President of Research and Development for a major corporation. The chefs have amassed many national and international accolades including a team gold medal in Seoul, South Korea, first runner-up in American Culinary Gold Cup Bocuse D’Or U.S.A., an unprecedented two “Best Restaurant of the Year” awards at two different restaurants and Chaine des Rotisseur recognition as one of the top ten chefs in the Midwest. Ed also is one of only 70 Certified Master Chefs in the United States, passing the rigorous 10-day CMC exam in 1993.
Cook's Fresh Market has been located at the corner of the 16th Street Mall and Glenarm since 2006. The market uniquely features a gourmet bakery, deli, prepared-foods case, cheese counter and shelves stocked with homemade nibbles, European specialty foods and spices. There's even a small cooler in the back with bundles of fresh vegetables for purchase.
But Cook's is more than willing to do the cooking for you: You can order lunch or dinner from the bistro menu and enjoy it in the modest dining area. Offerings include an epicurean salad with grilled chicken, duck or lots of fresh veggies, as well as build-your-own sandwiches with prosciutto, salami or chevre topped with spinach, sprouts or mixed greens.
